Midterms

Hi everyone,I took the first half of my western civ. midterm yesterday (since it's after 12 now). I think I did alright, but I still have the essay half to go on Friday. I'm sorry for not taking anyone's calls or being online too much, but I really need to study for my midterms. Next week is going to be insane. I've got 3 midterms on my plate, 2 are religion, and the other is for ethics. And I am studying like "woah". I'm a bit worried about all of these midterms. I just hope I don't get my stuff for my 2 religion classes mixed up. It would be bad to start talking about Hinduism or Buddhism in my New Testament class. *grins*Well, I'm off to bed, 'cause staying up 'til 2AM studying and getting woken up at 6AM by the fire alarm is not fun. At least we passed it and we won't have another one. It also doesn't help that I overslept and missed Eastern Religious Traditions. Darn it. Oh well.

I'm sorry

*sigh* It seems that everytime I try to do something for myself, karma comes and bites me in the butt. I was spending time with some other friends, and because of that, I hurt the friends that I consider my family. I do have to say I'm sorry to a few people. There's alot that I would do for you, but I guess you don't really know that, because I don't always show it. I understand all of your anger, but I hope that you will understand.Musicsoul- I'm sorry, but I honestly never heard you mention a time. My cell phone lost its signal for a short time during our conversation, and I think that is when you mentioned a time. I apoligize for that. I just wish that you had called me later that night while I was out. I would have come if you had called me. knoaxx_reborn- I'm sorry about not taking you back to UNCG. I gave C. my word that I would, and I would have. I am sorry for all of the confusion.shandrella- I'm sorry that I was not there to do what I promised. I just wish you had heard my side of the story before getting so upset. But yes, your anger is justified.I'm upset that such a simple miscommunication could cause all of this, but so be it, because it is done.

More Musings

As we all know, there are many religious paths out there. But all of them have some very similar questions and thoughts. What am I? Where did I come from? What is the higher being/creator/God/Goddess? We can't really wrap our brains around that concept. What is the afterlife, heaven, summerland, etc? Or are we reincarnated, forced to remain in samsara? Ask a Wiccan, Pagan, Christian, Buddhist, Hindu, atheist, Shinto, Taoist, etc. and you will get infinite answers as to what awaits us after we die. What is the purpose of karma? To keep you inline or it will bite you in the ass. What about our dharma (duty)? We all have our duties. I've found that we have more in common with Christianity and Hinduism than Wiccans would like to think. Kind of sad when we find more differences between our different paths, when they all have such similar goals and questions they want answered. And I've found becoming a religion major has raised more questions than it has answered. Very frustrating. I describe myself as a spiritual person, but I have no set path. Therefore I am an eclectic. I respect them all. They all have important values and things to teach us.

Musings

What is empathy? According to Webster dictionary, empathy is "the action of understanding, being aware of, being sensitive to, and vicariously experiencing the feelings, thoughts, and experience of another of either the past or present without having the feelings, thoughts, and experience fully communicated in an objectively explicit manner." What makes a person an empath? It is someone who can sense someone else's feelings without the person telling them. Ever have any unexplained emotions? I have.

3rd week

It's hard to believe that it is the third week of spring semester. Wow. Ten more weeks to go. Time really flies when you stay busy. Things are starting to get a little hectic. I have three short essays/papers due next week, so I will be in W-S this weekend. I also need to start reading Hard Times by Dickens for my Western Civ. class. *sigh* I also need to finish reading The Bhagavad-Gita. Why is it that professors have to make everything due the same week? Or have midterms on the same week? *sigh* It's too early to be stressing over midterms, but it sucks that they are right before Spring Break. It's hard to think that Spring Break is a month away. Where is the time going?

Imbolc

I've just finished my Imbolc celebration. The dorm room smells like candles. (Just hope that our RHD doesn't come in here.) Blessed be the goddess Brighid.Things are good, but I think I'm going to have to invest in a tape recorder for Western Civ. It's going to be difficult to keep up with this professor. That's all for now.

First day so far...

Well, things are looking pretty good. Both of my religion classes are going to be interesting and somewhat demanding. Western Civ...er, that's almost going to be academic suicide. Now that will be a tough class. Oh, well. At least I know what to expect in my other classes for the most part.

Time for Spring Semester

Well, I'm getting ready for my new set of classes. Unfortunately, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays are going to be early mornings for me. I have to be up by 7AM at the latest. I just hope that the major switch pays off. I've always been interested in religion, but this is entirely new territory for me. It's a big change from biology to religion. And I have five classes. They are as follows: Eastern religious traditions, intro to new testament, western civilization since 1715, ethics, and Spanish. I will officially be living in Main Hall from now on, LOL. At least I don't have to worry about the 3 hour labs twice a week. That is a relief. Well, wish me luck, this is going to be a busy semester.

Snow?!

Well, everyone here is waiting for it to start falling. I just hope that we don't get alot of sleet or freezing rain. Last weekend was bad, even though it was just a little ice. I'm hoping for all snow, but it's probably going to be a mix. That's all for now.

First Entry

Well, as you can see by the title, this is my first entry. It's been a quiet day, being the last day of Janterm. We've been discussing sexual orientation, and we finished by discussing "Stone Butch Blues" by Leslie Feinberg. That is, emotionally, a very tough book to read. Jess, the main character, has to go through so much drama, I'm suprised she isn't tramatized. The discussion of this book brought up some tough thoughts for me. I have currently not come out of the broom closet, except to a few close friends that are wiccan or pagan as well. I am very worried about coming out of the closet to my family. At worst, my situation would be that I would get kicked out of the house and/or the preacher would try to preform an exorcism. That causes me some amounts of anxiety. But I've taken some comfort in the reading I just started. Along with just finishing "Stone Butch Blues", I've started to read "Full Contact Magick" by Kerr Cuhulain. I highly recommend this book, and I highly recommend this author. He uses a mix of Eastern ideas mixed with Celtic influences. It is an interesting combination. Well, that's it for now.
